Garden Makeovers
If you already have the foundations for your great garden, or your once perfect garden has past it’s use by date, then let us do a makeover for you. We have the expertise and knowledge to bring it back to life. It can include formative pruning, introduction of new plants, mulching, and even new edging.
Hedge & Shrub Re-Shaping
Formal shaping of hedges has been a tradition for many years and with continued trimming we can achieve some very interesting shapes.
To the most part, we shape hedges to a “square” or “ball” profile but we can obviously tailor to your needs given time and repeat trimming and shaping.
Hedge Reductions
Hedge reduction is a process that is a more drastic process than simply hedge trimming. In some cases, a hedge may have over grown due to neglect or long periods without trimming. The hedge therefore needs to be reduced in height or width (or both) but doing so can be detrimental to the hedge. Careful assessment of the hedge is needed to determine how to reduce it without causing too much stress which can lead to decay and/or pest problems.
Weed Control
Weeds are great survivors. It takes more than a few years of drought and water restrictions to knock them on the head. Just hitting them with a harsh chemical from the local ‘you-know-who’ fixes them temporally and when they come back, it is with a resistance and more strength.
Weeds come in all shapes and sizes, from things like morning glory to small plants like ochna to large trees such as Elms.
To stay on top of these weeds, we recognise them, let you know and either we advise you how to remove them or we do it for you. It is important that even if we can’t physically remove a weed, we can stop it seeding by removing its flowers.
Remember weed control is best for your garden, and best for your neighbour’s garden too!
To effectively control perennial weeds, we may need to use herbicides to kill its root from underground as well as what has grown into your garden.
Soil/Mulch Replenishments
As the weather is warming up, it is time to replenish your garden.
There are a range of different types of soil to replenish your gardens, each garden is different, please ask us what would suit your garden best.
Mulching
A lightweight cost-effective mulch often used is sugarcane mulch. This has the advantage of mostly being weed free; however, it does not have a lot of magical qualities, but is often promoted in QLD because it is in abundance here. It is a waste product, so levels of quality can differ also the introduction of sugar cane pests can be carried into our gardens from the bales.
I prefer Lucerne straw, but it is more expensive.
Forest Mulches will also do the trick, a mix of tree fines and palms fines works a treat. If you don’t like palm fines, then substitute that with sugarcane or Lucerne.
